Mrs.Betty Hodgson’s funeral at St.Andrews Church Honingham on Monday July 10th at 2pm.

After Mrs.Betty Hodgson moved to Church Farm House she soon became involved in village life. She was a valued member of the church often doing the flower arrangements. As President of Honingham Womens Institute, and a member of the darts team, she invited members to her house where they spent many happy afternoons playing tennis and having cups of tea and cake. Many parisheners have fond memories of their children having lots of fun in the swimming pool on the games afternoons. We also enjoyed walking round the garden and viewing the snowdrops. Table Tennis was another of her interests and she was a very good player. She will be remembered with affection by the people of Honingham.

Visit from Roella – Granddaughter of the late Sir Edward Fellowes

Roella Trudgill contacted us via the Honingham website to say that she is delving into the history of her family and would love to see the Ailwyn Cup and any photo’s we have of the Fellowes or Ailwyns. Susan and Ray Grant, Julie Turner and Linda Human met Roella in the Village Hall and were able to tell her a bit more about her late Grandfather and family from photo’s and history extracts that have accumulated in the Honingham History archive. Mary loaned us the Ailwyn Cup for the day and Roella was able to take photographs of it. Thank you to all who helped! We have received this from Roella:

I really can’t thank you enough for arranging for me to see all the memorabilia relating to my ancestors – it really is much appreciated. Please convey my thanks to the others, whose names escape me so please could you remind me of them?
Below is a photo of me with the cup and the other one is of my grandfather, the late Sir Edward Fellowes, Clerk to the House 1954-1961, (b1895/d1970),cousin to Carol Fellowes, 4th Lord Ailwyn, (b1896/d1988)
My very best wishes from Roella.

Well done to all. Just in time for the Dunkirk Veterans Remembrance Service which will be held in the Village this Sunday, 6th November.

A47 Closures Next Week

Dear Sir/Madam

Work to repair the A47 between Dereham and Easton

We are working on behalf of Highways England to repair the road surface of the A47 near you. This work will repair the road at Bushy Common, Dereham, Hockering and Easton.

Subject to weather conditions, we plan to complete this work overnight between Monday 7 November and Friday 18 November, working between 20:00 and 06:00 on weeknights only. We apologise for any delays this may create for your residents, parishioners and staff.

To keep road users at a safe distance from the works, we will close the A47 at each location while we are working. This will be at:

  • Bushy Common on Monday 7 November;
  • Dereham from Monday 7 to Friday 11 November;
  • Hockering from Tuesday 8 to Wednesday 16 November, and;
  • Easton on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 November.

There will be a clearly signed diversion route in place, whereby drivers heading eastbound will be directed to exit the A47 at Swaffham, taking:

  • the A1065 north to Fakenham, then;
  • the A148, then;
  • the A1067 south east to Norwich, then;
  • the A140 Norwich Ring Road, and finally;
  • the A1074 Dereham Road to re-join the A47 at Longwater.

Drivers heading westbound will directed to exit the A47 at Norwich, taking:

  • the A11 south west from Thickthorn roundabout to Thetford, then;
  • the A134 north to Mundford, and finally;
  • the A1065 north to Swaffham to re-join the A47.

Local traffic will be permitted along the A47 up to the point of the closure, and those needing access to properties through the closure will be able to approach the gateman for further instruction.

We have written to local businesses affected by the works and we would be grateful if you would publicise the works to your parishioners through newsletters and other communications where appropriate. Given the length of the diversion route we would advise drivers to allow extra time to complete their journey.

We will do our utmost to complete the works as quickly as possible, avoiding disturbance and keeping noise to a minimum.
