Honingham Bowls Club – First Roll Up Evening 27th April 2017

Despite the rather dodgy weather, the inaugural Thursday Roll-up evening was a great success. More than 30 people turned up to try their hands at bowls, Pool, Darts, Table football, Chess and Crazy golf. Thanks to many donations of drinks and nibbles, a wonderful social evening took place.

What will happen when we have a lovely warm evening? We are very encouraged. If you are interested, why not pop down next Thursday 630 till dusk and have a try. Bring the kids, as there is lots for them to do.

All you need is a pair of flat soled shoes to avoid damage to the green. Look forward to seeing you………………

Bowls Club…..can you spare an hour or so this Saturday?

The green has now been scarified and starting to look super.

However, lots of jobs still to do, so if you can spare a couple of hours this Saturday morning, 10 am onwards, we’ll be glad to see you.

HONINGHAM BOWLS CLUB NEWS March 2017

The Bowling Green is starting to look good. The next event in our calendar is assembling a work party to help with scarifying the green and tackling lots of DIY jobs. If you can help, come along at 10 am onwards on 8th April and bring your favourite tools.

It has been decided that there will be no form of “Membership” so that all will feel welcome to use the facilities free of charge – bowls, crazy golf, pool, darts to name a few!

We are going to have a regular “Roll-up” evening on Thursday evenings from 6.30 pm onwards starting on 27th April. All equipment provided – just bring some flat soled shoes to prevent damaging the grass. BYOB of course!

The green will be available for anyone to play, anytime, 24/7. Come along to see what is available in this, your village amenity

This year’s big event will take place on Sunday 25th June – more publicity to follow but get the date in your diaries.

Power to the People!!

Great News – the electricity supply to the Bowls Club has now been reconnected. Thanks to George Middleton and Craig for getting that organised.

During the past few weeks the green has been treated with chemical to improve the water penetration, and then lawn sand has been spread to kill the moss and weeds, and fertilise the grass. All made possible by the Parish Council’s funding to purchase the necessary machinery and chemicals.

Now we can get a bit of light and warmth in the pavilion we are planning to have a Committee Meeting with a view to organising some kind of Social event, as well as deciding what work can be achieved in the coming months to get ready for the start of the fun on the green. Watch this space……..

We thank you all for your interest and support.

***HONINGHAM BOWLS CLUB LIVES AGAIN***

At this week’s Parish Council meeting the costs of resurrecting the Bowling Green, and of the ongoing maintenance, were put forward by Craig Mattless. These were of course “worst scenario” amounts, as several fund-raising events are planned during the coming year to minimise the outlay.

Some discussion was forthcoming, with strong support from some members of the PC. This decision was being made after much effort to find out what the Village wanted – the Bowls option seemed to be one of the cheapest and most popular one. The recent “Open Day” was very successful – with many residents signing up to support the idea of a casual, friendly Club – open to all. The proposal was adopted unanimously.

The Committee can now get the electricity reconnected (so that the irrigation system will work again), and carry out the recommended Autumn treatments to the green. Work parties will of course be needed, and volunteers are urged to contact Craig. The green won’t mow itself!

Murmurs of dissent will of course be heard. “Such a lot of money to be spent” etc etc.

But if the new Club and its fundraising events are successful there will be no great expense to the village. If it is not (and we will soon know) then the idea could quickly be abandoned and the Village will just have to decide on what to do with the green instead.

But the Committee is determined to give it a real go, and hopes that the village will respond by using and enjoying this wonderful facility.
